ABOUT YOUR RIVER SHIPS
AVALON TAPESTRY
New in 2006, the Avalon
Tapestry® is a new type of
ship for river cruising, offered exclusively by Avalon Waterways on the
English-speaking market.
Contrary to other
vessels on the rivers today, the navigational bridge
is located in the stern, behind the passenger section, thereby allowing
for more spacious and gracious interior designs. The lounge and
restaurant, located in the front of the vessel, give unimpeded views on
three sides of the passing river landscape. The Sky Deck is a vast area
for sunning, taking your pictures, or just relaxing!
The Avalon Tapestry provides a
complete break from the pressures of every day. The public rooms are
elegant, and the dining room is extra spacious. The cuisine and wines
on board will surpass your expectations. Pampered by our crew, our
guests will make new friends and enjoy the casual camaraderie that
leisurely cruising creates. You unpack only once, then enjoy life by
lazing on the Sky Deck as timeless landscapes pass before you.
AVALON
TRANQUILITY
The
Avalon Tranquility® introduces a new type of ship to
cruising. The navigational bridge is located in the stern, behind the
passenger section, allowing for a more spacious and gracious interior
design. The lounge and restaurant, located in the front of the vessel,
give unimpeded views of the passing landscape. In addition, the Sky
Deck is vast for sunning, taking pictures, or simply just relaxing.
Avalon
Tranquility® features the
Silent Drive System (SDS) created to enhance guest experiences. SDS
features ship engines located at the stern, separating it from the
passenger compartment, allowing for a quieter cruise experience than
traditional small ships.

Hotel
locations maximize your sightseeing time
We
take extra care to select downtown
locations for
our independent
tours and for longer stays on escorted tours, when your itinerary
features days at leisure to explore on your own.
When
your
itinerary allows time only for a good night's sleep
between two busy sightseeing days, our expert contractors sometimes
sensibly opt for quiet residential areas.
And
you'll
be delighted with our choice of hotels in scenic
countryside locations. Wake up to the sound of cow bells, take a
morning walk in crisp mountain air, enjoy glorious panoramic views of
the majestic Alps or the Norwegian fjord country.
Superior
accommodation
Globus uses chains such
as
Crowne Plaza, Forte, Hilton, Holiday Inn,
Hyatt, Inter-Continental, Jolly, Queens Moat Houses, Marriott,
Mövenpick, Radisson SAS, Renaissance, Scandic, Sheraton, Sofitel,
Thistle and Westin.
The
specific
hotels we have selected for you are listed separately
for each tour. The vast majority of our hotels are rated deluxe (D),
superior first-class (SF), or first-class (F). In overnight places
where there is no hotel in these categories or where our demand exceeds
the supply, we choose the best available superior tourist-class (ST) or
tourist class (TC) hotels.
Most
hotels
have amenities such as satellite TV, mini-bar, a
cocktail lounge, a restaurant, room service and concierge services.
Many also have a swimming pool, health club, shops, and dry cleaning
and laundry services.
Globus
hotel
ratings follow standards set by the independent Hotel
& Travel Index and by national tourist boards. The specific rating
for each contract hotel is determined by our quality controllers.
We
reserve
the right to substitute hotels listed on the itinerary
pages with hotels of equivalent standard. With your Globus travel
documents you’ll receive a list of hotel addresses, telephone numbers,
and fax numbers for your vacation.
Dining
in style
On
our
vacations, most meals are included. Start each day with a
full American breakfast; at some hotels, it will be a buffet with all
the trimmings. When you dine at your hotel, you’ll enjoy delicious
3-course dinners with choice of entrees. The meals are carefully
planned to avoid the repetition of entrees. Whenever possible, we
include dinner at a local restaurant so that you can sample the
specialties of the area.
Unlike
an
airline, we cannot process
requests for special meals. While some hotels and restaurants may be
able to provide for a special diet, such as vegetarian or salt-free
food, there is no way for us to guarantee this. Special food may cost
extra.
Extra
nights before and after your vacation
If you
require extra nights at the first and/or last vacation hotel,
we will make reservations for you at the rates quoted, provided you
request them at the time you book your vacation. Rates are per person,
per night, and include room with private bath, breakfast, service
charges, and taxes.
Extra
nights are only available
immediately prior to or after your vacation. Every effort will be made
to reserve extra nights at the hotel where your vacation stays. If
space at the hotel is not available, alternative accommodations will be
reserved at a hotel of equivalent standard. When this is the case, the
transfer from and to the vacation hotel is at our expense.
As
hotel space is limited, we cannot reserve more than two extra nights
before and/or after your vacation, unless they are needed to bridge the
gap between two Globus vacations. During particularly busy periods,
hotel space in certain cities can become so tight that we may be unable
to sell extra nights.

EVERY
JOURNEY TELLS A STORY
ITINERARY
Day
1 - Depart USA
Day 2 -
4 Prague,
Czech Republic
(Thu.-Sat.) Prague is
a 1,000-year-old city preserved in time. It straddles the Vltava River
with domes, cupolas, spires and pinnacles highlighting its skyline.
Bestknown
treasures are the Old Town’s Astronomical Clock, once the envy of all
of
Europe; HRADCANY CASTLE, St. Vitus, Cathedral; and the Charles Bridge.
Browse the shops for hand-cut crystal or art books. Mix with the locals
in Wenceslaus Square or stroll along the Vltava River. Your Cruise
Director
will have other suggestions for things to do. (BB daily)
Day 5 Prague-Nuremberg,
Germany
(Embarkation) (Sun.) After
lunch
drive to Nuremberg where the crew of your vessel awaits to welcome you
on board. (BB,D)
Day 6 Nuremberg
(Mon.) Although Nuremberg suffered extensive damage
during WWII, much
of
it was restored to its original style. Marvel at this historic city
with
its fabulous Gothic churches and elegant patrician houses. Nuremberg’s
traditions include its famous Lebkuchen, toy making and metal working.
(FB,L,D)
Day 7 Regensburg
(Tue.) Regensburg is one of Germany’s best preserved
medieval cities.
Architectural
highlights include the Old Town Hall, the beautiful white and gold OLD
CHAPEL, and the Porta Pretoria–gates to an ancient Roman fort built in
179AD. The city is the capital of Upper Palatinate, a bustling
university
town and one of Bavaria’s cultural centers. The Thurn und Taxis family,
who until the second half of the 19th century had the monopoly on the
German
postal services, owns the impressive St. Emmerammus Abbey buildings
making
up the THURN UND TAXIS CASTLE. (FB,L,D)
Day 8 Passau-Linz,
Austria

(Wed.) Passau, ideally
located
at the confluence of the rivers Inn, Ilz and Danube, is a city of
graceful
arcades and cobblestone streets. St. Stephen’s Cathedral houses the
world’s
largest church organ with over 17,000 pipes. An optional full-day
excursion
to Salzburg takes in the popular Sound of Music sights. Linz, Austria’s
third-largest town, lies on both banks of the Danube and is an
important
industrial town and busy river port. (FB,L,D)
Day 9 Melk-Vienna
(Thu.) Melk’s magnificent BENEDICTINE ABBEY dominates
the town from its
commanding hill site and is one of Europe’s largest monasteries. The
view
from the terrace over the Danube and surrounding countryside is
breathtaking!
Vienna, known as the “City of Music,” inspired the creative genius of
Mozart,
Beethoven and Strauss. An optional concert is available tonight.
(FB,L,D)
Day 10 Vienna

(Fri.) Once the center of the mighty Hapsburg Empire,
Austria’s capital
has much to offer: the lavish Hofburg Palace, the impressive Vienna
Opera
House, the majestic Ringstrasse and awe-inspiring ST. STEPHEN’S
CATHEDRAL,
to name just a few of the sights. You do not rush through Vienna; you
waltz,
taking your time to savor each classic sight and sound. Shop in the
Kärntnerstrasse
and enjoy Sachertorte or Apfelstrudel in a neighborhood café.
(FB,L,D)
Day 11 Budapest,
Hungary
(Sat.) Budapest, spanning the
banks of the Danube, is the liveliest and most cosmopolitan metropolis
of Eastern Europe. Seven bridges, including the famous Chain and
Elisabeth
Bridges, connect ancient Buda on the right bank with Pest on the left.
The massive hilltop castle complex with FISHERMENS BASTION and the
MATTHIAS
CHURCH are sights not to be missed. Shop for renowned peasant
embroidery,
Herend porcelain and paprika. (FB,L,D)
Day 12 Budapest
(Disembarkation) (Sun.) Your homebound flight arrives the same day. (FB)
