 Black
Mesa Golf Club, designed
by architect Baxter Spann, "could very well turn out to be the finest course,
public or private, in the state," according to Golf Digest. The course
plays through dramatic sandstone ridges with Black Mesa visible from several
locations. Each hole is different, featuring characteristics that make
each one both strategic and memorable in its own unique way. The 18-hole
site showcases distinctive bunkering, native arroyos as hazards, and green
contouring in keeping with the scale of the natural landforms.
The environment
at Black Mesa is pure, absent of any man-made distractions. As you enter
the site, your first glimpse of the course gives you a taste of this vast,
dramatic property. But the excitement doesn't end here. Black Mesa has
a wild Irish links look to it, particularly in the spring after a wet winter
when the native grasses are leafy and blowing in the breeze. In addition,
the course was designed to be fun and challenging in both calm and windy
conditions. |
 Angel
Fire Country Club
offers one of the Southwest's best 72 par, 18 hole golf courses, available
to members and to the public. The 6,600 yard PGA rated course is the nation's
third highest at 8,600 ft. (Your ball goes higher and farther at this altitude!)
There's links-style play on the front nine, with smaller greens and plenty
of bunkers, while the back nine incorporates a longer-playing layout that
meanders through two unspoiled canyons of aspen, spruce and piñon.
The course is both challenging and scenic, so regardless of your skill,
you'll enjoy your day on the greens.
