A great driving journey through some of Texas' best and most scenic
golf country, this run will untether your spirits and put you on some
of the most challenging holes all along the way. Start anywhere along
this suggested itinerary and make the triangle of Houston, Austin and
Ol' San Antone! C'mon down to Texas and get your slice of the pie.
Day
1 - Arrive HOUSTON
in the morning (if possible)
for a short drive to Cypresswood Golf Club
to play 18 at The
Tradition Course. Check
in to The Springhill Suites Intercontinental
that afternoon/evening.
THE
TRADITION COURSE AT CYPRESSWOOD
A
return to the game and
it’s origin,
pure and simple, where you can have fun and get lost in the game” -
Keith
Foster - Designer, The Tradition, The Bandit, Bighorn, The Quarry,
Walking
Stick. The Tradition has been #1 in the Houston area Four Years Running
and still going strong! The
Tradition
played host to the 1st Stage of the 2005 PGA Qualifying Tournament.
Day
2 - HOUSTON
Play Redstone's
Tournament Course,
home of the PGA Shell Houston Open. Enjoy
your second night in Houston with a night on the town or just relaxing
before your journey down the road into the Texas Hill Country the
following
morn.
THE
TOURNAMENT COURSE AT REDSTONE
Redstone
Golf Club's new
Tournament
Course, home course of the Shell Houston Open, is one of only 11
courses
in the country open to the public that hosts a PGA TOUR event ! Varying
in length between 5,200 and 7,550 yards, the course features Mini
Verdie
greens and Tif Sport fairways and tees and was designed by the
legendary
Rees Jones with PGA TOUR Professional David Toms serving as course
design
consultant.
Since
entering the field of golf
course architecture in 1964, Rees Jones has designed or redesigned more
than 100 golf courses, many of which are widely recognized to be among
the very best in the game. A number of courses designed or
significantly
remodeled by Jones have hosted or been selected as sites for major
national
and international tournaments, and PGA TOUR players around the world
have
praised his ability to design courses that are straightforward, yet
challenging.
The Tournament Course is uniquely
free from any housing development, so you and your guests can enjoy a
round
that feels like you are worlds away, event though you are just 15 miles
from downtown Houston and five miles from George Bush Intercontinental
Airport. Treat yourself, your favorite golfer or your most
discriminating
client to a round of golf on the Tournament Course, and play where the
pros play!
Day
3 - Arrive AUSTIN
This morning make the scenic
drive from Houston to Bastrop to play Grey Rock Golf Club.
Check in to the Springhill Suites Austin South
that afternoon/evening.
GREY ROCK GOLF CLUB
Located
just 15
minutes Southwest of
downtown Austin, Grey Rock Golf Club has been recognized as one of the
top
20 public courses in Texas by Gulf Coast Golfer Magazine. In addition,
The Hill Country Golf News states that Grey Rock is the
"finest daily fee,
championship layout in the Austin area". Designed by renowned golf
architect
Jay Morrish, this course encompasses approximately 160
acres
of the natural beauty found in the Texas Hill country. Situated among
some
of the most beautiful oaks in the area, the course is tree-lined and
features
large, undulating bermuda greens that are protected by mounds and
bunkers.
Day
4 - AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO
Check out of your hotel
for a morning tee time at Falconhead Golf Club
- one of the first courses designed by the PGA. Then, make the
leisurely
drive to San Antonio for arrival and check in at the new LaQuinta
Inn and Suites
located on the northwest side of town.
FALCONHEAD GOLF CLUB
Falconhead was
expertly
designed to fit carefully into the gently rolling terrain of the Texas
Hill Country. It is a golf experience that can be enjoyed by golfers of
all skill levels, including the top players in the world and average
weekend
golfers. Each hole has four to six sets of tees so that the course
offers
all the challenges you would expect from a PGA TOUR course, yet it
remains
fun, playable and memorable.
The newest addition
to the
PGA TOUR family of golf facilities, a PGA TOUR Signature Series Course
is a golf facility designed and operated to meet the exacting standards
of the PGA TOUR. Each Signature Series Course is committed to providing
its guests with a golfing experience that lives up to the PGA TOUR’s
unmatched
standard for quality, conditioning and customer service, while also
being
capable of hosting championship golf tournaments.
Day
5 - SAN ANTONIO
A select tee time at Canyon
Springs Golf Club
starts your San Antonio visit off in the
right direction. In the evening, take a stroll down the city's famous
Riverwalk
and enjoy a relaxing dinner on the sidewalks where some of San
Antonio's
finest eateries can be found.
CANYON
SPRINGS GOLF CLUB
The 7,077-yard layout
was
designed by Thomas Walker. Don't worry if you've never heard of him; if
this place reaches its potential, you'll surely be seeing more of his
name
in the future.
Canyon Springs
is set in
a scenic oak forest covering a series of hills. The isolated routing
makes
you feel as if you're on top of a private mountain, as no two fairways
run parallel. Some might expect a tricked-up course with wild elevation
swings and long forced carries. Instead, the design blends in with its
environment instead of taking advantage of it.
There were some heated
discussions
during construction on whether or not to leave some strategically
placed
trees, and in the end, the correct decisions were made. The result is a
thinking person's layout where placement off the tee is critical and
the
huge greens can make for wildly different pin positions. One of the
most scenic courses in San Antonio, this stop will surely please all!
Day
6 - SAN ANTONIO
This morning, tee it up
at the host course of the PGA Texas Open. La
Cantera Golf Club
is a fitting end to this grand golf
odyssey.
LA
CANTERA GOLF CLUB
La Cantera has
been
the site of the PGA
Tour's Texas Open since 1995. Located on the north side of
town,
this thrill-a-minute design by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish has made
quite
a bit of noise since its debut. It was a Golf Magazine "Top 10 You Can
Play" pick for 1995 and continues to set its sights high, with a
500-room
Westin grand class hotel.
Speaking of roller coasters, the
seventh hole provides one of the most remarkable scenes in all of golf.
The tee shot on this 316-yard par four drops 80 feet down to the
fairway,
set in the bottom of an old limestone quarry. However, your eyes seem
glued
to what sits to the left of the hole: The Fiesta Texas Amusement Park,
complete with "The Rattler," a huge wooden roller coaster directly on
the
other side of a fence from the green. Every 40 seconds or so, your
concentration
is interrupted by the shrieks of yet another group of thrill seekers as
they cascade down the coaster's initial drop.
In
addition to the championship 18-hole
Resort Course at La Cantera, the resort gained another 18 holes
in the spring of 2001 with the opening of the Palmer
Course at La Cantera,
designed by golfing legend Arnold Palmer. The resort’s acclaimed Golf
Academy
features state-of-the-art equipment, a talented staff, and specially
designed
corporate and group programs.

Designed
with either the weekend novice or the seasoned golfer in mind, the Grey
Rock Golf Club offers a wide
range
of play for all skill levels. The course was designed by Jay
Morrish
and Associates, and has been cited in both regional and national golf
magazines
as one of Texas' best daily fee courses. The 18 hole championship
course
operates as a semi-private golf club for Circle C residents and their
families.
In addition, the Grey Rock Clubhouse and grounds are among the most
beautiful
settings for either a quick lunch, a tournament party, or even a
wedding
reception. The
centrally
located putting green
and large strolling pathways are intensely landscaped with beautiful
flowers,
fountains, and walls. With a few easy steps, you can walk into a

TEXAS OPEN
|
La Cantera has
been the site of the PGA Tour's Texas Open since 1995. Located
on
the north side of town, this thrill-a-minute design by Tom Weiskopf
and Jay Morrish has made quite a bit of noise since its debut.
It
was a Golf Magazine "Top 10 You Can Play" pick.
The 7,001-yard
layout is spread
over three hilltops, serving up views of the surrounding terrain. Some
holes seem like a game of "can-you-top-this," with dramatic elevation
changes,
carries over ravines, and risk-reward opportunities. But La Cantera
pulls
this off without being gimmicky because it's the roller-coaster
property,
not the design, that causes the drama.
Speaking of
roller coasters, the
seventh hole provides one of the most remarkable scenes in all of golf.
The tee shot on this 316-yard par four drops 80 feet down to the
fairway,
set in the bottom of an old limestone quarry. However, your eyes seem
glued
to what sits to the left of the hole: The Fiesta Texas Amusement Park,

other side of a fence from the green. Every 40 seconds or so, your
