GLOBUS TOURS DISCOVER
THE GALAPAGOS AND PERU 15 Day Tour
Natural
and historic treasures await you on this 15-day cruise vacation in Peru
and the Galápagos Islands. Begin your South American adventure in
Quito, Ecuador, where you will visit the San Francisco Monastery and the
La Compania Church before traveling to Cotopaxi National Park aboard the
Chiva Express coach train. Afterward, fly over the Pacific to Baltra Island
to embark on the Isabela II for your four-night cruise of the Galápagos
Islands. Each day, discover the unique flora and fauna of these legendary
islands when you travel ashore with an expert naturalist. After your cruise,
travel to Lima, Peru, to explore the historic wonders of the Incan Empire.
In Cuzco, visit Tambomachay and the Temple of Sacsayhuaman before reaching
Sacred Valley. There you will tour the fortress of Ollantaytambo, then
travel to Machu Picchu—the Lost City of the Incas. Return to Cuzco to visit
the Santa Domingo monastery, then continue to Lima, where you will see
the Gold museum and Casa Aliaga.
Why is the
Isabela II special? Cruising
the Galápagos Islands on board the motor yacht Isabela II goes beyond
the concept of traditional cruising, evolving into an expedition approach
in order to authentically discover and explore the natural wonders of this
region. The yacht accommodates up to 40 guests in 21 comfortable cabins,
all with full private facilities, permanent hot and cold water, sufficient
closet space, and control panel for room temperature, loud speaker, volume,
and lights. Each cabin is fully carpeted and air-conditioned throughout.
While on board, relax on any of the three public decks, which include a
lounge-bar, library, dining room, office and boutique, sun deck with Jacuzzi,
Sun Deck Bar, plus closed-circuit TV in public areas.
Navigate
the Fascinating Galápagos Islands Up-close views
of giant tortoises, penguins, sea lions, lizards, and many different species
of birds are the biggest attraction for visitors to this archipelago. And
the best way to explore these natural wonders is island hopping on a Globus
cruise. Consisting of 13 large and several hundred small islands located
in the Pacific Ocean off the western coast of South America, the Galápagos
are truly a traveler's dream vacation. Navigate your way around these volcanic
isles in complete comfort as you absorb the scenery and wildlife that inspired
Charles Darwin.

ITINERARY
Day
1 Fly to Quito,
Ecuador. Board your flight to Quito, the
capital of Ecuador and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. Your flight
to South America arrives late this evening where you will be met by your
Tour Director.
Day 2 Quito.
Your Local Host will show you this city on an included sightseeing tour
that showcases its treasures: the historic stone murals of the LEGISLATIVE
PALACE; Independence Plaza and the 16th-century SAN FRANCISCO MONASTERY;
the Jesuit’s LA COMPANIA CHURCH with its stunning golden altars; and the
impressive paintings at the WORKSHOP AND MUSEUM of Oswaldo Guayasamin,
one of Ecuador’s most celebrated artists. Also be sure to have your photo
taken in front of the EQUATORIAL MONUMENT, “the center of the world.” This
evening, enjoy a WELCOME DINNER at a local restaurant. (B,D)
Day 3 Quito.
Excursion on the Chiva Express to Cotopaxi National Park. Today’s adventure
starts by heading to the station of Tambillo, where the “CHIVA EXPRESS,”
a colorful one-coach train, like a bus on tracks, is ready to depart. A
highlight of the trip is to “ride the roof” with panoramic views of the
stunning Andean region of Ecuador. Up top in the open air, you will leisurely
enjoy the ever-changing scenery as you roll along the rails, passing local
villages and country homes. Disembark the Chiva in Machachi, at the foot
of Cotopaxi Volcano, and continue into COTOPAXI NATIONAL PARK. Inside the
park, enjoy lunch at a local family’s hacienda where your meal comes from
the surrounding area—with fresh cheese from the farm, vegetables just picked
from the garden, homemade desserts, and natural seasonings. Later, there
will be time to horseback ride, bird watch, or explore the surroundings
on foot before returning to Quito in the afternoon. (B,L)
Day 4 -
7Quito-Baltra-Galápagos
Islands (Embarkation)-Cruising. A morning
flight over the Pacific to Baltra, one of the remote Galápagos Islands.
Upon arrival, board the Avalon exclusive Isabela II yacht where you will
enjoy five days of CRUISING among various Galápagos Islands. The
ship’s itinerary will vary according to the Galápagos National Park
policies and regulations, weather conditions, and seasonal changes to create
the perfect cross-section of sites visited. Each day, travel ashore to
the remote islands with your expert naturalist who introduces you to the
unique fauna living free and fearless of man. Giant tortoises, Galápagos
fur sea lions, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, frigates, and finches
are just some of the many endemic species you will find on land. You will
also have the chance to take a dip in the turquoise blue waters for a snorkel
with colorful tropical fish, playful sea lions, and maybe even an equatorial
penguin or shark! On each cruise you will visit the CHARLES DARWIN RESEARCH
STATION, established to help conserve the Islands’ natural habitat. (B,L,D
daily)
Day 8 Galápagos
(Disembarkation)-Lima, Peru. Depart the
Galápagos today and fly to Lima to begin the Peru portion of your
vacation. (B)
Day 9 Lima-Cuzco-Sacred
Valley. Fly to Cuzco, the impressive Andean
city that was once the capital of the Inca empire. Continue into the Sacred
Valley and visit the nearby Inca baths of TAMBOMACHAY and the semi-circular
Kenko Amphitheater with its stone altars and labyrinth of passages. See
the ancient site of Puca Pucara before reaching the TEMPLE OF SACSAYHUAMAN,
perched on a hillside overlooking Cuzco. It still remains unfathomable
how and when this fortress of gigantic stones—with some blocks weighing
more than 350 tons—was built. Next, visit Pisac, an old mountain village
where you will have the chance to visit a local home, meet some locals,
and experience their way of life. Also enjoy free time in the town center
to browse the colorful stalls where vendors sell their handicrafts, ranging
from fine alpaca sweaters and blankets to hand-painted ornamental dishes
and vases. Enjoy a relaxing dinner at your hotel. (B,L,D)
Day 10 Sacred
Valley-Machu Picchu. Begin the morning
with a visit to the Inca fortress of OLLANTAYTAMBO. Next, board your TRAIN
for a short journey through the lush Urubamba Valley. Then transfer to
a motorcoach for the ascent to legendary MACHU PICCHU, “The Lost City of
the Incas”, high above the steep valley overlaid with dense tropical jungle.
Your Local Guide will bring you closer to the lives and mysteries still
hidden in these amazing structures, built by the pre-Columbian masters
of this sacred land. Tonight stay at a nearby hotel. (B,L,D)
Day 11 Machu
Picchu-Cuzco. Today enjoy the tranquility
of the morning. You will have some free time to wander the ruins at your
own pace and inhale the magic that is Machu Picchu. After lunch, return
to Ollantaytambo by train and continue to Cuzco. (B,L)
Day 12 Cuzco.
Today learn more about the Incas and their futile struggle with the invading
Spaniards. Visit the imposing CATHEDRAL, the SANTO DOMINGO MONASTERY on
your guided tour. Tonight enjoy dinner at a local restaurant accompanied
by ANDEAN FOLKLORIC MUSIC. (B,D)
Day 13 Cuzco-Lima.
A short flight to Lima this morning. Your Local Guide focuses on the city’s
colonial heritage during a walking tour. Start at the Plaza de Armas to
see the Government Palace and visit the CATHEDRAL, where the skeleton of
Francisco Pizarro is sealed in a wooden coffin. From here, stroll to the
venerable SAN FRANCISCO MONASTERY with its splendid 17th-century cloister
murals. Next, a stop at Lima’s famous GOLD MUSEUM. This evening as a special
treat and finale to your vacation, your Tour Director hosts an elegant
FAREWELL DINNER at the CASA HACIENDA MOREYRA. This grand house, home to
a priceless collection of Colonial art belonging to the National Institute
of Culture, is where you will be treated to a sumptuous dinner with wine.
(B,D)

About Globus More than
75 years ago, Antonio Mantegazza bought a rowboat to transport commercial
goods across Lake Lugano in Switzerland. Who could know that rowboat would
launch the world's leading escorted travel company? Today Globus is a global,
family-owned company reaching every corner of the world. Globus is now
the first choice among individuals looking for vacations with both domestic
and international travel in a variety of styles to six continents and hundreds
of itineraries to choose from.
Antonio's frequent
trips across the scenic lake led him to consider opportunities in a different
market - tourism. His entrepreneurial instinct pushed him to gradually
acquire some motorcoaches to transport tourists around the Lake Lugano
area. In 1928, Antonio opened a company specializing in motorcoach touring
called Globus Viaggi. The company began with a fleet of 12 coaches which
operated local excursions for European tourists in Switzerland.
By 1950, Globus
Viaggi had grown to a fleet of 33 coaches and featured overnight excursions
to Rome, Venice, the Dolomites and the French Riviera. Gradually, these
became regularly scheduled tours and grew longer to cover more ground.
Later that decade, under the leadership of Werner Albek, Antonio's business
partner, Globus pioneered the concept of Grand European Touring by offering
first-class European tours to North Americans. By 1961, the company launched
its Cosmos arm, which featured affordable, value-priced European touring
for the cost-conscious British traveler.
The coach tours
were so successful that Cosmos soon introduced another form of travel for
the British market: air holiday packages to the sunny destinations of southern
Europe. By 1968, Cosmos air holidays became so popular the company formed
its own airline, Monarch Airlines. Monarch Airlines started out modestly
with two used Britannia aircraft and eventually blossomed into one of the
most successful European charter companies with a large fleet of modern
jets and its own engineering division.
Under the flagship
of Sergio Mantegazza, current president and son of Antonio, Globus began
expanding its markets beyond Great Britain and North America. Since 1974,
travel packages have been sold in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and most
recently in Southeast Asia. Starting in the 70s, the company also aggressively
expanded its offerings, introducing travelers to more countries than any
other tour operator with packages to Africa, South and North America, Europe,
the South Pacific and Asia.
Today, the
Globus family of brands is marketed and operated by a network of more than
32 independent tourism and aviation businesses, serviced by a group of
more than 5,000 professionals worldwide. Combined, Globus, Cosmos, and
Monograms carry over 500,000 passengers a year, making the organization
the leading operator of guided vacations worldwide. Globus attributes its
success to the ideals of founder Antonio Mantegazza. For three generations,
his vision, hard work, love for travel, and commitment have guided the
company. These values are the cornerstone on which Globus was built and
will continue to grow.
